The Turn Sequence
The game is played in turns, with each turn having two phases. The Player Turn Phase occurs first, followed by the GM Turn Phase which occurs second.
A turn usually represents one hour in the game world, which includes both Player and GM turn phases. Once both phases are complete, the time of day in the game world will advance by an hour.
However, if any of the players in the warband are in combat, turns will only advance the time of day by a quarter of an hour.
Player Turn Phase
All of the players in the warband share the Player Turn Phase together. The players can perform actions in any order and do not each need to take individual turns.
When performing actions, each player may use up to 3 Action Points in a single turn. This means that choices may be limited, and players must make careful decisions about what they want to do.
When all the players have completed all of their actions for the turn and are ready to move on, the GM may end the player turn phase and start the GM Turn Phase.
GM Turn Phase
In the GM turn phase, the GM may activate any enemy NPC that is on the same hex tile as at least one player from their warband. Each NPC also has 3 Action Points that the GM can use in each turn.
NPCs can be activated in any order and the GM can also use NPC Action Points in any order. They do not have to use all Action Points for a single NPC before activating a different one, and any NPC can be activated multiple times by the GM in their turn phase. This means that GMs can strategise actions for groups of NPCs just as intelligently and collaboratively as player warbands.
When the GM has completed all of the actions they have chosen to take for any NPCs they are able to activate, they may end the player turn phase and start the next Player Turn Phase.
A number of things also happen automatically once both the Player and GM turn phases have ended and the next player turn phase starts.
These include:
Any ability effects are applied to players and visible enemy NPCs.
Ability cooldowns are incremented for players.
